Given that support at home is essential to keep people as independent as possible but not the sole responsibility of any one agency, the National Homecare Council is championing a more integrated approach to care and support at home.
As people age and their circumstances change, they need help to stay as active, engaged and independent as possible with the assistance of a variety of people, organisations and services. Good coordination of that support needs to be the ambition of everyone in the circle of support to provide a seamless approach to meeting a diverse range of needs.
From the perspective of the end user, the fewer opportunities to fall between the gaps of each agency or service the better. For this reason the National Homecare Council is re-positioning itself with a new brand - The Integrated Care Council - which will feature in all the good practice we promote in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales; and will be an inspiration to the influence we exert in the home care field to ensure a more integrated approach to providing high quality solutions.
Whilst the NHC will still exist as a legal entity for business purposes, we will gradually move towards more frequent use of the Integrated Care Council brand. A small group of NHC Members will be putting a paper together for discussion at the next Board meeting and the new focus will be heralded at the Annual Conference.
More news as this develops will appear on our website and in the next newsletter.
